A Summer Staycation or getaway Itinerary in Lafayette and West Lafayette
Looking for a summer getaway without going too far? Lafayette and West Lafayette are full of places that make a simple overnight trip feel special, whether you are planning a family staycation, a girls’ weekend, a couples getaway, a solo adventure or a quick visit from out of town.
This itinerary brings together cozy coffee, Purdue campus views, classic local restaurants, a baseball game, a beautiful hotel stay, brunch, candy, art, gardens and just enough room to slow down and enjoy the season.
Day One: Coffee, Campus, Comfort Food and Baseball
Start with breakfast at Greyhouse Coffee
Begin your morning in West Lafayette at Greyhouse Coffee, a beloved local coffee shop with a full coffee menu, pastries, breakfast options and crepes that are absolutely worth ordering. It is the kind of stop that works whether you want to ease into the day with a latte and something sweet or enjoy a more filling breakfast before exploring.
My recommendation? Do not skip the crepes. They make breakfast feel a little extra special and are a perfect way to start a summer itinerary.

Explore West Lafayette and Purdue University
After breakfast, spend some time exploring West Lafayette and Purdue University’s campus. This is one of the best free activities in the area, especially in the summer when the green spaces, fountains, public art and walkways make campus feel extra beautiful.
Take your time roaming around, finding photo spots, enjoying the fountains and taking in the mix of campus energy and peaceful outdoor spaces. Whether you are a Purdue alum, a future Boilermaker family or simply visiting for the day, campus is always worth a stroll!

Lunch at Triple XXX Family Restaurant
For lunch, head to Triple XXX Family Restaurant, a true West Lafayette classic. This local favorite is known for its nostalgic diner feel, connection to Purdue and menu items that have been featured by the Food Network.
We enjoyed a grilled tenderloin and one of their well-known burgers and this is definitely one of those stops that feels like a must-do when visiting Lafayette/West Lafayette. It is casual, fun and full of local flavor.

Stop at Tropicanoe Cove
Tropicanoe Cove is a fun and easy way to add a little splash time to your Lafayette/West Lafayette itinerary. This local outdoor aquatic center is perfect for cooling off after a morning of exploring, especially if you’re traveling with kids or just want a relaxed summer break. With water slides, pool areas, a lazy river and plenty of classic summer fun, it’s a great stop to make the day feel even more like a mini getaway.

Check in at DoubleTree by Hilton Lafayette East
Later in the afternoon, make your way to DoubleTree by Hilton Lafayette East. It is located right off Interstate 65, but once you walk inside, it feels like a getaway all on its own.
The hotel is beautiful, comfortable and full of amenities that make it a great option for both visitors and locals planning a staycation. The rooms are spacious, the lobby area is welcoming, and there is a thoughtfully curated snack area that even features items from local businesses.
Guests can enjoy the indoor pool, hot tub, fitness center and on-site dining. The restaurant is open to the public, making it a convenient option if you want to stay in for dinner, but it is especially nice for hotel guests who want an easy meal without leaving the property.
This is a great home base for a summer weekend in Greater Lafayette.

Grab dinner at Arni’s
For dinner, we made a quick stop at Arni’s near Columbia Park in Lafayette. Arni’s is one of those local staples that feels familiar in the best way. You cannot go wrong with an Arni’s Junior, a sub and a cheese pizza.
It is casual, family-friendly and perfect when you want something easy, delicious and very Lafayette.

Spend the evening at a Lafayette Aviators game
End the night with a Lafayette Aviators baseball game at Loeb Stadium. This is such a fun summer activity whether you live here or are visiting for the weekend.
The atmosphere is relaxed, kid-friendly and full of community energy. You will find ballpark food, additional food options, a beer garden and plenty of room to enjoy the game. One of the best parts is that it feels easy and welcoming for all ages. Families can walk around, kids can take in the excitement of the stadium and everyone can enjoy a summer night outside.
It is the perfect way to wrap up day one of your Lafayette/West Lafayette summer staycation.

Day Two: Brunch, Candy, Art and Gardens
Brunch at The Eleventh House
Start day two with brunch at The Eleventh House. Known for amazing bagels, bagel sandwiches, coffee and creative breakfast options, this is a great stop whether you are craving something for breakfast or lunch.
It has that relaxed, local feel that makes you want to slow down, enjoy your food and ease into the day.

Stop into Something Sweet Candy Shop
After brunch, take a quick peek inside Something Sweet Candy Shop nearby. It is a fun little stop to add to the itinerary, especially if you are bringing kids along or just want to treat yourself.
A candy shop always adds a little extra joy to a day out, and this is an easy stop to pair with brunch before heading to your afternoon activity.

Tour the Haan Museum or explore the gardens
For your afternoon activity, visit the Haan Museum of Indiana Art. If you have time, you can pay to tour the inside of the museum and explore the incredible art, history and architecture.
If you are looking for something quick, free and outdoor-friendly, the Haan Museum gardens are a beautiful option. The sculpture garden and nature trail are free to enjoy from dawn to dusk, making this a great stop for visitors who want a peaceful walk, a little art and a quiet moment outside.
It is a lovely way to end a summer itinerary and a reminder that Lafayette and West Lafayette have so many hidden gems to explore.
