Going to grab a scoop of ice cream sounds like a simple activity, but for me, it’s the backdrop to some of my favorite memories. When I’m back home with my family, my favorite nightly activity is asking my mom if we can go get ice cream. Every time, without fail, she’ll roll her eyes and tell me it’s too late, but every time, she’ll grab her keys and drive the two of us to go get ice cream for the whole family.

Purdue University Student, Ella Heubach, shares this blog. This blog is part of a series of articles submitted to Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette through a cooperation with a 400-level travel writing class at Purdue University.Every's Icecream Shop

Fortunately for me, my ice cream runs have been able to continue even when I’m back at school, away from my family. Located at 840 Main St. in Lafayette, Every’s Ice Cream is a local, family-owned shop that opened its doors in December 2024. It’s owned by David and Carla Watkins, along with their son and daughter-in-law, Tanner and Anna Watkins. David and Carla are also the owners of the nearby Two Tulips Boutique.

When my family came into town for my birthday, we made a stop at Every’s after our dinner. The design of Every’s is very neat and well organized. The ice cream displays and register take up one wall, while there’s plenty of space at the front of the shop to sit down at tables and enjoy your treat. My whole family and I were able to sit together while we finished our ice cream.

Anna Watkins, one of the co-owners, said that they get their ice cream from JB’s Barnyard, another ice cream shop and supplier located in Evansville, Ind. She told me they really wanted an Indiana company sourcing their ice cream. According to its website, JB’s ice cream is handcrafted and locally made on site at its farm. From the over 30 flavors of ice cream that JB produces each year, Every’s is able to choose which flavors they want to bring into the shop.

I decided to go for a kids scoop of the S’mores flavor, while my sister chose a scoop of Espresso Chip. I really enjoyed having the size options of a kids scoop, single scoop, or double scoop. I also appreciated the variety of unique and classic flavors. There are also seasonal flavors that join the menu during certain times, such as Pumpkin Spice Latte in the fall.

Customers can choose between a cup, sugar cone, or waffle cone for their ice cream. In partnership with Indie Coffee Roasters, they also offer drip coffee, americano, espresso, and affogato.

Anna told me that the name Every’s came from the idea that ice cream is open to everyone, anytime. No matter the mood you’re walking in with, this is a place to come in and enjoy your time.

That is the experience my family and I were able to have at Every’s. We came in after having a nice family dinner, and got to continue the fun and love at Every’s. Whether you’re a Purdue student, Lafayette local, or a visitor, Every’s is a must stop shop for anyone with a sweet tooth.
