Spotlight on Pride: Civic Theatre Celebrates Diversity On and Off Stage

This Pride Month, we’re proud to highlight one of Greater Lafayette’s cultural gems: Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. At the heart of this historic theater is a commitment to storytelling, inclusivity, and creating space for all voices—on stage, behind the scenes, and in the audience.

We recently sat down with Raquel Lopez, Producing Artistic Director of Civic Theatre, to talk about what Pride means to the organization and how it continues to build community through the arts.

Throughout the year—and especially during Pride Month—Civic Theatre supports LGBTQ+ visibility through programming like Boiler OUT Loud, a spoken word event that gives local voices a platform to share their truth, and Civic After Dark, a bold, late-night series that pushes creative boundaries.

These initiatives, paired with mainstage productions and educational outreach, speak to the theatre’s mission: to tell stories that matter and make sure everyone feels seen.

Whether you're a lifelong local or visiting for the weekend, Civic Theatre invites you to experience the power of performance—and the joy of being part of a community that celebrates you, exactly as you are.
