The City of Lafayette will hold the annual Stars and Stripes 4th of July Celebration on Sunday, July 4, presented by International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) - the ‘Real Journeymen of Lafayette’.
New this year will be a parade at 11 am that will begin at 16th and Alabama Streets and will proceed onto Main Street. It will run to Wallace Avenue by the Frozen Custard and turn onto Park Avenue to conclude in Columbian Park. To encourage children participation, we are bringing back the ‘box parade’ where kids would construct walking floats made out of boxes that was once part of the Historic 9th Street July 4th festivities. Prizes will be awarded to the top five entries in the ‘box parade’ that best portrays the parade theme. The parade theme this year will be Honoring Our Local Heroes!
Beginning at 6 pm, Riehle Plaza will be the site of the annual July 4th Stars and Stripes Concert featuring the Lafayette Citizens Band, the Freedom Singers, Lafayette Jeff Jazz Combo and Alumni Band, Clave Caribe Latin Music along with a spectacular firework show over the Wabash River starting at 10 pm. Local food trucks will be available along Second and Main Streets before and during the concert starting at 5 pm for refreshments.
