Perennial by Susan Fletcher Conaway
Perennial is a series of fiber and mixed media works by Susan Fletcher Conaway. It describes two seasonal states, winter, and spring, that Susan observes in nature and recognizes in herself. Using fabrics, threads, and acrylic paint, she makes use of imagery and textures inspired by plants and animals to visualize “rest and reach.” These works explore the curling inward toward winter to gather energy for the bloom of spring and the repetition of these rhythms in the natural environment. Techniques in her current work include machine quilting, hand quilting, hand embroidery, soft sculpture, deconstructing fabrics, and collaging fabrics and paper with acrylic paint and mediums.
Indiana artist, Susan Fletcher Conaway, is inspired by her connection to the rhythms of natural spaces, plants, and creatures of her home state. Her background is in graphic design and illustration.
Perennial can be seen at Artists’ Own Gallery in Lafayette, IN. The opening reception is Friday, July 2, 6-8 pm. The exhibit runs from July 2-August 7, 2021.
