Or do you live in this area and are looking for entertainment close by? Check out the endless possibilities for fun events happening this upcoming weekend in Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana. Friends of Bob presents 3 bands; John Paul Keith & the 145s, Amy LaVere Band and Motel Mirrors, (all from Memphis!) this Saturday, January 11 at the Lafayette Brewing Company! Keith has created a nice blend of all kinds of American roots; music rockabilly, honky-tonk, 50s dream pop, blue-eyed soul, 60s punk, Merseybeat, Brill Building song craft, and power pop. He and the One Four Fives have craft and style in spades. Chicago Reader Amy LaVere's cathartic twang draws from influences as varied as Billie Holiday and Leonard Cohen. The singer, songwriter, actress and bassist blends classic country, jazz and gypsy blues. While classic country duets were the original inspiration, the Motel Mirrors' real sound is modeled more after the Everly Brothers, who layered doubled vocals and acoustic guitars over a simple rhythm section. This Sunday, January 12, head to Mackey Arena to cheer on our Men's Purdue Basketball Team as they take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers.  Is there anything better in winter than college basketball?  If you ask my husband he would say, "No!"  And being at the game makes the experience more thrilling and exciting.  Mackey Arena can hold more than 14,000 Purdue fans, and with the stadium full of cheers and hollers the noise alone makes your adrenaline soar.  Boiler up!
