This Friday, January 17, Purdue Convos Presents Artemis. True to its Greek goddess namesake, the all-star jazz supergroup Artemis draws back its bow and strikes true at high-wire interplay and pure joy. Hailing from America, Canada, Israel, Chile and Japan, the sextet features Renee Rosnes (piano / musical director), Ingrid Jensen (trumpet), Anat Cohen (clarinet), Noriko Ueda (bass), Allison Miller (drums) and tenor saxophonist Melissa Aldana, the latter of whom Convocations presented to sold-out Carnahan Hall crowds in 2014. Regularly leading their own bands, the artists of Artemis gather their genius for selections spanning Thelonious Monk to the Beatles—presented with passion, power and sensitivity. This performance represents Convocations’ kick-off contribution to the 30th annual Purdue Jazz Festival, a Purdue University Bands event bringing more than 2,500 middle- and high-school students to campus for clinics and concerts.

The 30th Annual Purdue Jazz Festival will be held January 16-18! The big-band and combo competition will take place on Saturday, January 18th. To celebrate the 30th anniversary, the Saturday evening finale concert featuring the Purdue Jazz Band and guest artists, Tia Fuller and Aubrey Logan will be held in Elliott Hall of Music, which will allow everyone to attend! The festival will host 24 outstanding adjudicators from across the country, as well as several internationally renowned clinicians and guest artists, including Mark Buselli, their 2020 Artist-in-Residence.
