Or do you live in this area and are looking for entertainment close by? Check out the endless possibilities for fun events happening this upcoming weekend in Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana. It's Archaeology Day in Tippecanoe County! On Saturday, September 13th from noon to 4:00 at the Tippecanoe Battlefield Museum, the Tippecanoe County Historical Association and the Department of Anthropology, Purdue University will host archaeology activities for children and families in celebration of Indiana Archaeology Month. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology (DHPA) annually coordinates Indiana Archaeology Month to celebrate and recognize the work and discoveries of archaeologists around the state with special presentations and activities for kids and adults. This year's event will include an artifact ID session, where visitors can bring in artifacts for assistance in identification; a chance to look at artifacts from digs at Fort Ouiatenon; and activities that give visitors an opportunity to experience archaeology first-hand including a simulated dig and laboratory. Bonus: Archaeology Day activities are free and open to the public! After an afternoon of digging for artifacts, enjoy an evening of romance at the performance of Love & Death, produced by the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra. Partnering with students from Purdue Theatre, the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra features pieces conveying the tragic romance of the renowned Shakespearian couple, Romeo and Juliet. . The dazzling Purdue Theatre students accompany this unique unveiling of the famous love story with readings from Shakespeare’s play, as the orchestra presents Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet. Also featuring: Mozart-Don Giovanni Overture, Bernstein-Symphonic Dances from Westside Story, and Tchaikovsky-Romeo and Juliet.
