Lafayette, Ind. -- Effective today, the Lafayette-West Lafayette Convention & Visitors Bureau (LWLCVB) – the community’s official destination marketing agency – will become known as Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette.
The new trend in the CVB/destination marketing organization world, is to use Visit versus Convention & Visitors Bureau. “It’s a shorter, simpler and easier word to understand that speaks directly to the purpose of our organization. Successfully attracting people to Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette is our primary task. We do that by marketing the Lafayette-West Lafayette area as a competitive destination to the potential consumer and we are pleased and excited about this name change,” according to President, Jo Wade.
Mayor of West Lafayette, John Dennis said, “Three words are easier to say and to understand. This change should also clear up confusion about what the tourism arm of our community is here to do. It reflects a more vibrant and hip community experience.”
"Our community has visitors from all over the globe and often we build friendships and positive relationships that just might develop into long term partnerships and new businesses, but in the short term it is about creating travel jobs and visitor spending, which enhances the economic climate of our community,” said Tony Roswarski, Mayor of Lafayette.
“Tourism brings in over 3.7 million people to the Lafayette-West Lafayette area and travelers make over $240 million in purchases annually while in Tippecanoe County. The name change speaks to exactly what the Visit Lafayette – West Lafayette team is all about. They are here to attract meetings, group, sports business and the individual traveler that in turn helps to enhance the economic impact to the community. They strive to ensure that those visitors have a good travel experience while here,” according to County Commissioner and LWLCVB board member David Byers.
The new "Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette" logo has been added to the Visit team’s website, HomeOfPurdue.com. Changes to brochures and signage will be worked on and updated over the next few months. The website address will remain HomeOfPurdue.com and a new updated web design will be completed by the end of the year.
