[caption id="attachment_3839" align="alignright" ]Purdue Memorial Union Purdue Memorial Union[/caption] Happening Now! Right now, the talk around town is about the arrival of Purdue University students back on campus and the whirlwind of activity taking place at the Purdue Memorial Union.  The Sagamore Restaurant, located in the heart of the Union, is hopping with visitors, students, professors, and Purdue employees enjoying their fresh, delicious food off their ever-changing hot action food station. The Sagamore Restaurant is the perfect breakfast or lunch choice if you are on campus.  Every morning they offer breakfast off the menu and depending on the activities taking place on campus, they offer a hot buffet.  During lunch, patrons of the restaurant have the opportunity to choose from their hot action station with a soup and salad bar or off the menu.  The hot action station changes every day, so it makes the experience different every time.  Also, the chef cooks the food in front of the guests, so everyone can watch their own food being created. I have had the opportunity to eat off the hot action station and off the menu, and my experiences have been great!  I really enjoyed the hot action station because I loved the selection of fresh fruits and vegetables at the salad bar, and the homemade soups offered are delicious.  Their menu offers a nice range of upscale dining choices and I would highly recommend their beef tenderloin tornedoes, which is a sauté’ medallion of tenderloin topped with a Gorgonzola demiglace and crispy onions.  The beef is tender and the Gorgonzola demiglace gives it a sharp, rich flavor.  Add in the crispy onions, and it is perfection! I would be remiss not to speak about the service and ambiance.  As soon as visitors arrive, the host/hostess happily greets them and takes them to their table where servers instantly fill their water glasses and take their drink order (and food order if ready!).  The servers are knowledgeable not only about the food, but many of them are Purdue students and can share information about the university.  Diners also greatly enjoy the bright and airy setting.  Beautiful paned glass windows line the wall bringing in lots of light and a great view to outside.  The tables are all lined with white table clothes providing the space with a more upscale look. The Sagamore Restaurant also serves big groups.  4 private rooms are available for entertaining.  These include the Lafayette Room that can host around 30-32 people, Wabash Room that can host around 18 people, a conference room that can seat around 18 people, and the Directors Dining Room that can seat between 8 and 10 people.  The staff at the Sagamore Restaurant suggests calling at least one day ahead to reserve these rooms.  (Please note: these rooms may not be available during major events being hosted at Purdue.) Whether you are looking for delicious dining, interesting attractions and shops, enticing events or home away from home lodging—a getaway to Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana, is sure to satisfy.
