Memorial Day weekend equals festival time and this weekend is the first festival of the summer season, Round the Fountain Art Fair! This fair is one of the best one-day outdoor art shows in the Midwest featuring paintings, sculptures, pottery, photography, prints, jewelry and other media. The art fair takes place downtown Lafayette, Indiana, on Saturday, May 26. It is the perfect day to enjoy our beautiful downtown, while browsing one of a kind artwork. And to top it off, there is usually a strawberry shortbread stand that serves a bowl full of strawberries and shortbread topped with a heap of whipped cream. The thought has my stomach growling as I type!
Come out and celebrate Memorial Day on Monday, May 28, during the Memorial Day Parade. The parade will start at 16th Street and Alabama Street in Lafayette and end in Columbian Park. A Memorial Day Ceremony, led by featured speaker, Captain Eugene Jones, will follow the parade on Memorial Island in Columbian Park. This special ceremony will include music, recognition of veterans and Gold Star Mothers, and conclude with taps and memorial volleys.
