Join in the three-day Purdue Jazz Festival. In its 23rd year, the Purdue Jazz Festival offers headliner concerts, jazz jams, high school big band and combo competition, and more. On Thursday, January 17, the festival opens with a Community Jazz Showcase featuring guest trumpeter, Leonard Foy, with jazz bands from Harrison, Jefferson, McCutcheon and West Lafayette high schools. It will be held at 7 p.m. at the Long Center for the Performing Arts.
Delfeayo Marsalis Quartet explores Duke Ellington's "Such Sweet Thunder," at 8 p.m. Friday, January 18, at the Loeb Playhouse at Purdue University. Later, enjoy the music at the Jazz Jam taking place at Greyhouse Coffee in West Lafayette Village.
On Saturday, January 19, the high school and middle school big band/combo competition takes place from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Purdue Stewart Center and satellite locations. At noon, listen to the concert with Leonard Foy and the Purdue Jazz Band in Stewart's Loeb Playhouse. The finale concert, with guest saxophonist, Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band), and the Purdue Jazz Band, will be the perfect complement to this three day musical extravaganza at 5:30 p.m. at Stewart's Loeb Playhouse.
