Are you in the mood for some food truck tacos, but also want to sit at a table? You are in luck! Los Chaparritos has opened not one, but TWO brick and mortar locations! We convened at the Sagamore West location, near Wright’s flower shop for some midday feasting.
One of my favorite things about a Mexican restaurant is the chips and salsa. Let me tell you, patience is not my strong suit, so it helps everyone in the vicinity if I have snackies in the interim. We found love at first dip; the salsa is pleasantly fresh and spicy and sits in the crispy chips as perfectly as it could! We munched happily away, alternating between the salsa and the fresh and delicious guacamole.
The chile relleno dinner was calling out to both Ken and Linda, but after a very aggressive leg wrestling match, Ken came out victorious. He didn’t make it all the way through, but he kept trying until the bitter end. “It was marvelous, wonderful, perfectly cooked and tasty!” The self-proclaimed poblano freak highly approved of this meal.
After icing her wounds, Linda found solace in the camarónes rancheros. I’m not sure why there was such an epic battle, we all know Linda to be the Shrimp Queen of the Midwest. Funny how things work out the way they should. She was as happy as a clam with her second string decision and gobbled down every single shrimp presented to her.
Kay paid way closer attention to the menu than I did and ordered the tacos camarón, carnitas, and barbacoa. Some of us didn’t know shrimp tacos were an option! Hers were topped with lettuce, onion, and tomato which made for a beautiful plate! After thorough research and oh so much consideration, it was decided that the barbacoa was her fave.
Jo’s omelette with a side of avocado and beans was also the first I knew of the all day breakfast. That’s right. All. Day. Breakfast. Breakfast all day, even. Even with dietary restrictions, her plate lacked nothing! For some reason, she always receives her food last, but the wait was worth it! The avocado was just the icing on the cake!
Jerry has been here before, so he knew what he was doing. He ordered the steak milanesa, which is breaded steak with rice, beans, lettuce, tomato and French fries. He really got all the goods. Let me tell you, Jerry’s endurance is seriously impressive. He keeps going long after we’ve all thrown in the (paper) towel and is a card-carrying member of the clean plate club.
I kept it classic with a steak taco and carnitas, both with onion and cilantro. You can take the food out of the truck, but you can’t take the food truck from my heart. Kay took pity on me for my ignorance and plopped half of her shrimp taco on my plate! I needed a side of beans, for the plot I suppose. I love their tacos. Fun fact: they offer $1.50 tacos at all 3 locations every Wednesday from 4-8pm!
Every last one of us was so happy with this place. We encourage you to go check it out for yourself, but rest assured, you can expect freshly prepared, perfectly cooked, flavor fiestas here on the regular. There is a chance you’ll have to wait for a table, because there wasn’t an empty seat in the house!
