Happy Thanksgiving! Holiday Weekend Update! Looking for a fun Indiana weekend getaway? Or do you live in this area and are looking for entertainment close by? Check out the endless possibilities for fun events happening this upcoming weekend in Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana.
Did you know there is one less week in between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year? Which means one less week of shopping for Christmas! With Black Friday and Small Business Saturday upon us, we recommend heading to the shops for some fabulous holiday shopping this weekend. Truthfully, I have never hit the shops on Black Friday. The shopping frenzy I hear from friends is a rush like one wouldn't imagine. But the crowds make me anxious, so the last few years I have opted to shop during Small Business Saturday. The small shops are busy, but there is a laid-back feel that calms my shopping anxiety nerves!

Last year, I headed downtown with my Mom and Great Aunt on Small Business Saturday to shop at the eclectic, specialty shops and art galleries. We enjoyed the crisp, cool air as we journeyed in between all the shops on Main Street from 5th Street north to 11th Street. At Le Originals/Something Special I purchased handmade cake testers that have unique glass ornamental tops to put in family members' stockings. They were a huge hit! I bought candles that smelled like gingerbread (Christmas wonderfulness!) for a few of my friends from Walnut Street Traditions. I even bought an early birthday gift, a handcrafted ceramic vase, for my sister (whose birthday is in March!) from Grateful Heart Gallery. Two Tulips has the most unique piggy banks, and I got a sports decorated piggy bank for a friend's son that was recently born. They even personalized it with his name!
Next we drove to West Lafayette to shop at one of our favorite boutiques, Gretel's Fine Gifts. I can always count on finding holiday gifts at this store and I was not disappointed! I purchased a pretty, pink scarf for my mother in-law, a granite cutting board (for wine and cheese parties) for my mom, and I couldn't resist purchasing the cutest reindeer decoration for our house! Our last stop of the day was Route 66 where not only did we scarf down burgers, chili and shakes, but we each bought ourselves a purse from their vast array of accessories. It was an awesome day!
Make sure you do not miss Small Business Saturday this Saturday, November 30 from 11 am to 6 pm. For more information about these events and other special "happenings" in Lafayette-West Lafayette, check out our website at www.HomeOfPurdue.com
