Right now, the talk around town is about this much awaited warmer weather!  It is time to get outdoors and take advantage of the sunshine by heading to the Wabash Heritage Trail, a 18 mile hiking and biking trail. Every winter my husband and I say we are not going to let the weather keep us indoors. Our plan is to brave the blistery, cold weather outside to exercise and stay fit and healthy.  (My father does it!  He runs all winter long no matter the temperature.) But every winter we slowly go from walking or biking four or five times a week to staying indoors all cozy and warm in front of our fireplace.  Thankfully, April is here and we have our tennis shoes ready to head out to get back into shape and to enjoy all the beautiful spring flowers. IMG_6791One of our favorite trails is the Wabash Heritage Trail as it allows us to capture the beauty of the Wabash River and the flowers and wildlife that inhabit it.   The trail starts at the Tippecanoe Battlefield and runs all the way to Fort Ouiatenon.  The part we like the most about the trail is the fact that it truly gives us the opportunity to enjoy the rural and urban setting as it runs through the natural environment and also through our cities.  It connects to the John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge, which is usually our starting point.  We usually head north on the trail as it winds along the river and if we have enough stamina we will make it all the way to the Tippecanoe Battlefield.  I love the little Nature Center at the battlefield, and the trail leads right up to it! Whether you are looking for delicious dining, interesting attractions and shops, enticing events or home away from home lodging—a getaway to Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana, is sure to satisfy.
