We are busy preparing for the upcoming Chicago Golf Show February 24-26! The Chicago Golf Show is the biggest golf show in the Midwest where we at the CVB team up with area golf pros and hotel professionals to showcase the Lafayette-West Lafayette Stay & Play program to more than 15,000 avid golfers. Attendees can get into the swing of things early by trying out this year's new clubs, taking lessons from PGA Teaching Professionals, purchasing discounted golf merchandise, and planning their golf vacations at exhibiting golf destinations.
It's a lot of work to put the booth together and prepare to greet all of the eager golfers who live to see the first sunny day they can take in eighteen holes, but we have a great time meeting a HUGE number of people and have seen a steady increase in the number of golf outings coming in year after year. We are always thrilled to have Purdue alumni stop by our booth to shoot the bull and relive memories from their alma mater. I am surprised every year by the number of them, many with children and grandchildren now attending the Gold & Black. I am also continuously amazed at how many golfers stop by the booth and say things like, "I've heard about Coyote Crossing (or Purdue's Kampen course) and have always wanted to play it." I also hear many golfers say, "I've played that Pete Dye course. You better bring your best game for that!"
For those of us that live here, it's easy to take for granted the fact that we have not one but TWO four and a half star Golf Digest rated courses right in our own back yard that people come from all over the Midwest to play. I get a charge out of not only getting to market the 9 golf courses and many wonderful hotels we have to offer but also the privilege of getting to broadcast to the world what a tremendous place Lafayette-West Lafayette is and how much it has to offer visitors.
