As we celebrate Women's History Month, it's an opportune time to honor the remarkable women who have shaped and continue to enrich the cultural and entrepreneurial landscape of Lafayette-West Lafayette. The stories of Emily Colombo and Sharon Owens exemplify the profound impact that passion, creativity, and entrepreneurship can have on a community. Their endeavors not only enrich the cultural fabric of Lafayette-West Lafayette but also serve as inspirations for future generations of women leaders. This Women's History Month, we celebrate their achievements and the countless contributions of women who continue to shape our vibrant community.

Emily Colombo: Infusing Flavor and Community Spirit

Emily Colombo's journey into the world of spices and teas culminated in the opening of "A Pinch of Pepper" in downtown Lafayette. This specialty shop, located at 619 Columbia St., offers a curated selection of bulk spices and teas, reflecting Emily's passion for culinary arts and her commitment to enhancing the local food scene. Her dream materialized in November 2023, just in time for the Thanksgiving season, providing residents and visitors with a unique shopping experience. Emily's dedication to her craft and her community has not gone unnoticed; her efforts have garnered national attention, with features highlighting the vibrant atmosphere she has cultivated in downtown Lafayette. A reminder to never give up on your dreams.

Sharon Owens: Crafting Art Through Glass

Sharon Owens' fascination with glass began in 1979 during a scientific glassblowing class at Purdue University. This initial encounter sparked a lifelong passion, leading her to apprentice under renowned artists across the country. In 2002, Sharon established Inspired Fire Glass Studio & Gallery in Lafayette, creating a space where art and community intertwine. The studio offers classes in flameworking, fusing, and glassblowing, inviting individuals of all ages to explore their creativity. The attached gallery showcases works from local and international artists, reflecting Sharon's dedication to fostering an appreciation for glass art.
