Welcome to Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette’s Embrace your Roots: Heritage Series where our team highlights businesses that make our community special and thrive while honoring the variety of cultures that form our community. By Merriam-Webster’s definition culture is “the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group”. Culture is much more profound than that. Culture is the DNA of communities, the fiber of people’s being. We hope that through this series the cultures that create our Greater Lafayette community can be highlighted and embraced. This blog was created in honor of Hispanic Heritage month with the purpose of continuing to share these amazing stories of culture and community throughout the entire year.

Héctor Ordaz, Owner of Nom Nom Tacos and Tequila

When Héctor Ordaz arrived in Lafayette, Indiana, from Hidalgo, Mexico, he was surprised to find there was not one Mexican restaurant downtown. Inspired to fill that gap, he brought his love for music and culture to life with Nom Nom Tacos and Tequila.

As you step into Nom Nom's, the enticing aroma of birria tacos greets you, accompanied by the lively beats of reggaeton. The vibrant Dia de los Muertos decor captivates your eyes, setting the stage for a truly immersive experience. Héctor’s vision extends beyond delicious food; each dish is a feast for the eyes, perfect for Instagram.

Don't miss their handmade margaritas, infused in-house for four weeks to achieve a delightful sweet and spicy flavor. Brunch is served every Sunday, and special events for occasions like Valentine’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, and Dia de los Muertos keep the celebration alive.

You can visit Nom Nom Tacos and Tequila at one of their two locations; Downtown Lafayette or on Veteran’s Memorial Parkway on Lafayette’s Southside.

Follow Nom Nom's on social media to stay updated on the latest festivities! A heartfelt thanks to our tourism partner, Nom Nom Tacos and Tequila, for sharing their story!

Anna and Jose Alfonso, Owners of L Kora Food Truck

Anna and Jose Alfonso Lopez, owners of L Kora Food Truck, immigrated from Mexico to California before moving and planting roots in Lafayette, Indiana. In 2014, the couple began their food truck, L Kora. The name pays homage to Jose Alfonso Lopez’s home state of Nayarit. The food truck serves authentic Mexican food, loved by the community and Anna shared she even has her own tacos when she gets home! The food truck is a family affair, Jose and Anna work the truck together with the help of their grandchildren.

Hispanic Heritage Month to Anna and her business means embracing her culture and seeing what she can give back to the community. Anna finds the importance in passing these traditions to her family and sharing pieces with customers and the community. Her pride for her Mexican culture is palpable and you can enjoy her family’s cooking at L Kora Food Truck. They are located at the West Lafayette Farmers Market on Wednesdays and post where they will be next on their Facebook.

Thank you to Anna and Jose Alfonso Lopez for sharing their story!
