Weekend Update! Looking for a fun Indiana weekend getaway? Or do you live in this area and are looking for entertainment close by? Check out the endless possibilities for fun events happening this upcoming weekend in Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana. It's a weekend for arts and entertainment!  Anna in the Tropics By Nilo Cruz is being performed at the Yue-Kong Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts this Friday, November 8 and Saturday, November 9.  This poignant and poetic story is set in Florida in 1929 in a Cuban-American cigar factory, where cigars are still rolled by hand and "lectors" (readers) are employed to educate and entertain the workers. When a new lector arrives and begins to read aloud from Anna Karenina, he unwittingly becomes a dynamic catalyst in the lives of his avid listeners, for whom Tolstoy, the tropics and the American dream prove a volatile combination. This play is the winner of the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.  (Please be aware it is rated R (sexual content, adult language and themes, recommended for ages 17 and up) Taking place at the Lafayette Theater this Friday, October 8 is the Martha Redbone Roots Project.  Raised in both the borough of Brooklyn and the Bluegrass State of Kentucky, Martha Redbone calls herself a “Hoodalachia Country Mama.” She’s also one of the leading contemporary voices in Native American music—fusing her Cherokee and Choctaw heritage to her African-American legacy in vibrant funk and R&B.  Enjoy the music of Appalachia: driving bluegrass, Piedmont blues, plaintive field hollers, Seminole chants, and spirited gospel rave-ups.
